Masato Tsukiji

Self-introduction

Nice to meet you.
My name is Masato Tsukiji and I’d like to introduce myself.

Lately I’m involved in a huge variety of activity,
and it’s become difficult to explain what I do for work.

I’m from Fukuoka, but at the moment I’m running a company in Tokyo called “biotope”.

Originally, I worked as a buyer, selling wholesale to collectors and interior shops the goods I imported to Japan. Then, in 2004 I opened the shop “biotope” in the residential area of Setagaya in Tokyo.

The first interview at “biotope”:

I know the author of the article since the time he wrote it, 10 years ago.

In 2011, I opened the shop “doinel” in Kitaaoyama, Tokyo.
内観 In 2003, I opened a shop in Fukuoka called “doinel bibliotheque”, it was open for six month. I liked the name and I decided to use it again.

At the moment, besides the shops, my job includes importing interior items from Europe, developing products that are originally designed by ourselves or in cooperation with other makers and designers, and then presenting them in Japan.

We also help planning events at “doinel” or other locations. Some examples:

Last year Finland Textile Exhibition:

I’m happy of my current situation, I’m getting more chances to work together with people in Fukuoka, and I’m able to come back to Fukuoka once a month. Thanks to Central, I hope to get even more chances to work with many different people.

In Central, I’d like to talk not only about my stores and events, but also about my daily experience in buying goods. I hope to meet a lot of people.
